Financial Systems & Planning Intern

Overview:

Location: Scottsdale, AZ

Duration: 10-12 weeks (Summer 2026) M-F In-Office

Under general supervision, the FP&A Intern supports the Finance team by enhancing the FP&A team's budgeting tool used to collect and analyze the annual cost center budgets. This role will focus to improve expense capture and usability and to contribute to the tool's transition from a Microsoft Access database to a Microsoft Power Platform based solution on the company's intranet. The internship concludes with a capstone presentation highlighting the key deliverables, skills used and developed, and the project's impact on the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Support development of a web-based version of the budgeting tool using Microsoft Power Platform; the project's overriding charter is to migrate the planning tool from an Access database to the company intranet
  • Enhance the company budgeting tool to improve usability and accuracy
    • Improve application logic to better capture line-item expenses
    • Implement business rules to improve accuracy
    • Develop new input forms to collect additional detail for select expense types

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher (MIS, Information Technology, Computer Science, IT Software Engineering, or related)
  • Thorough working knowledge of database/analytical packages (Access, SQL/MySQL, Excel VBA)
  • Working knowledge and understanding of web application development using Power Platform (Dataverse, Power Apps), and/or other web development tools such as Angular, React, Node.js, etc.
  • Demonstrable ability to discover and fix errors in code
  • Ability to document code and associated work with this project (experience with code repos)
  • Understanding of data modeling, validation, and basic testing practices
  • Proficient analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with persistence, determination, and a can-do attitude
